The Deep Exhale After Cheesemas
There’s a moment every January that I look forward to all year—the deep exhale.
The holidays are loud in the best way. They’re full of packed cases, full tables, big boards, big flavors, and even bigger feelings. We eat a lot of cheese. We talk about a lot of cheese. We celebrate with cheese, gift cheese, and gather around cheese. It’s joyful and exhausting and deeply meaningful all at once.
And then… it slows.
January feels like putting the shop back into its natural rhythm. Fewer bells, fewer whistles. The lights are still on, the cheese is still incredible, but the pace softens. There’s time to stand at the counter a little longer, to talk through a wedge without rushing, to really taste again.
This is the season where I find myself reaching for simpler things. A favorite cheddar I’ve loved for years. A slice of something familiar eaten standing at the counter after closing. Cheese that doesn’t need to impress anyone—it just needs to be good. Honest. Well made.
After weeks of abundance, this time of year reminds me why I fell in love with cheese in the first place. Not because it’s fancy or indulgent (though it can be), but because it’s grounding. Cheese is milk, time, care, and patience. It rewards slowing down.
We’re not “resetting” or “cutting back” here. We’re just listening again—to our bodies, to our customers, to the rhythm of the work. Enjoying cheese a little differently. A little more intentionally. A little more quietly.
So if you find yourself craving something simple right now, you’re not alone. Come in, take a breath, and let us help you find a piece of cheese that feels like a deep exhale too.
We’ll be right here—refocused, re-rooted, and very happy to see you.
